The Gadsden Fire Department shows off its newest Fire Station with an open house this morning. Fire Department officials say that the new station is a culmination of about 3 years of work and negotiations with the government. The new station is located on property that used to belong to the Air National Guard and is adjacent to Gadsden’s Northeast Alabama Regional Airport. The new facility is about 10,000 square feet. And there’s additional space on the property that the fire station is hoping to use for a training facility. And since the new station is near the airport, fire department officials are working on making the station an airport facility by obtaining equipment to use for plane crashes.
