Things become a bit heated at the end of Weaver’s City Council meeting. Resident Bill Harvey is asking for Mayor Garry Bearden’s resignation. Harvey says Bearden’s qualifying papers for the state representative seat in District 36 lists his residence as an Anniston address and therefore the mayor should resign his office. Harvey says after finding that paperwork with the Anniston address he decided to dig a little deeper for proof of Bearden’s residency. Mayor Bearden does not deny that he owns multiple homes, but he says his primary residence is in Weaver. The mayor says Harvey contributed to the campaign of his opponent in the state race and he believes that’s the reasoning behind the request for his resignation. Harvey says he made the request because he believes the mayor is breaking the law by holding office in a town in which he does not live.
