(07-26-10) Day two of Anniston’s internal inquiry is complete. A handful of witnesses testified before the inquiry body at city hall this afternoon. The city investigation centers on potentially illicit activity by some city employees. The agenda includes items such as on-the-job harassment; the police department’s operating procedures as well as tax administration and business licenses.
One former employee was reluctant to answer questions today saying she couldn’t reveal information about taxpayers’ files. Peggy Grubbs did eventually provide a summary of events surrounding a memo that she had written about a past transaction for a business license.
Grubbs wrote a memo to protect an employee who granted a license to a business despite the fact it was delinquent on taxes. That employee says she was instructed by her supervisor to grant that license regardless of the regulations. The inquiry will continue Thursday afternoon at city hall.
